A wax film former that quietly does what petrolatum does (slows water loss and shields chapped skin) without feeling slick. Most evidence comes from honey/beeswax/olive-oil cerates that have shown improvement in dry, irritation-prone skin in controlled trials. CIR-affirmed safe.
Good for: Barrier repair, Hydrating
The "calm-down" molecule in many sensitive-skin formulas. Reduces redness and stinging without bleaching your barrier, and plays nicely on top of retinoids or exfoliating acids.
Good for: Anti-inflammatory
Also called "cica," it calms redness, repairs the skin barrier, and speeds up recovery. The go-to for irritated or reactive skin.
Good for: Anti-inflammatory, Barrier repair
A pure hydrator that holds water in your skin. Makes skin look plumper and smoother almost immediately.
Good for: Hydrating
Sheep-derived wax esters that mirror the molecules in your own skin lipids. Deeply conditions and softens dry, chapped skin like rough hands and damaged lips, with multiple positive RCTs behind it. Note: classic but real allergen, so patch-test if you have a wool/Balsam-of-Peru history.
